NEW JERSEY HOMESCHOOL LAWS

This is just a small summary of the homeschooling law in NJ.  For a more detailed analysis of the NJ law, it is recommended that you do the following below.  Please note that this is not legal advice, but only a summary of the law that NJ has enacted to this date.  There are several bills that could be presented this year that could change our homeschool freedoms that we now have.  For legal advice and interpretation, please contact the HSLDA. 

 

I.                   Go to www.HSLDA.org (Home School Legal Defense Association) and search under NJ State Laws. 

II.                Be a member of the HSLDA to protect your rights as a homeschooler. 

 

     (COMPULSORY SCHOOL AGE – Between ages of 6-16 years of age) 

 

  • Legal Option:  Operate a home school
  • Attendance:  None Specified (180 days required for the public schools)
  • Subjects:  Must provide instruction academically equivalent to that in the public schools
  • Qualifications:  None
  • Notice of Intent to Homeschool:  None
  • Record Keeping:  None (although Potter’s Hand suggests that you keep some form of record of your homeschooling either from a journal schedule, pictures, log book, etc…)
  • Testing:  None
